Jam Sessions: Photographs by Martyn Goddard

Jam Sessions is the latest book from our publishing arm, Ormond Yard Press.

A few months ago, Martyn Goddard started sending me photographs of The Jam. He was teasing me. He knew that they were—and still are—one of my favourite bands. Martyn took the cover photographs for their first album In The City, their fifth, Sound Affects, and six of their early singles. We hosted an exhibition of his Jam photographs at the gallery in 2015, so I knew his archive inside out. At least I thought I did.

These photographs were different. I had never seen them before. It turned out that Martyn was just seeing them for the first time himself. They kept coming. A week would pass, and then some more. And on it went. Complete buried treasure—unearthed.  But how and why, and, more importantly, what were we going to do about it?

A lockdown deep dive.

Martyn was using the lockdown as a time for a complete review of his archives, from A to Z. This was turning into an incredibly productive exercise. He was finding things he had forgotten about. Things filed in the wrong place. Many of the photographs he uncovered had never been published. It was getting exciting. I was starting to feel like we had enough material for a really nice limited edition book. When Martyn phoned me to say he had found all the negatives from the “David Watts / ‘A’ Bomb in Wardour Street” shoot, I knew we had.

So here it is.

Jam Sessions: Photographs by Martyn Goddard is shipping in June 2021, but the pre-order gates are open if you would like to secure one. Just 350 signed and numbered copies of this book are being published. The 12 x 12 inch book is housed in a presentation box and comes with a separate signed limited edition print suitable for framing.

Jam Sessions is printed in England on heavyweight 400gsm paper, and is constructed as a ‘layflat’, where double page spreads sit perfectly flat—avoiding that annoying problem where parts of images are lost in the central gutter.

It has been a complete privilege to work on this book. We are very proud of it, and hope you enjoy it. Click on the button for all the gen, and to place an order.
