We are displaying two rare out-takes from Iain Macmillan’s August 1969 session with The Beatles for the Abbey Road album cover shoot. These are on show and are for sale at the gallery in the run up to Christmas 2016. Produced in a limited edition of 25 signed and numbered examples (plus artists proofs) on 20 x 24 inch paper by Iain during his lifetime, these rare photographs are highly sought after by Beatles collectors.
These two examples (frames 3 and 4 in the sequence of six that Iain Macmillan took that August Friday) are interesting because they show the Beatles going in two opposing directions. Frame three (left to right, the same direction as on the actual cover) shows a nice build up of London traffic ( including a bus and a black cab) in the background, while frame four shows the Beatles crossing right to left (the ‘wrong’ way) with a London bus positioned centrally in the background. The famous fifth Beetle is of course prominent to the left in both frames.
Get in touch if these are of interest.
