Soul legend P.P. Arnold visits Hendrix show

This blew us away. Here's why...

What a treat!

We had a visit from P.P. Arnold on Saturday afternoon. What a lovely lady. She's probably best known for her cover of 'The First Cut is the Deepest'. For me her standout moment has to be her incredible backing vocals on the Small Faces 1968 single, 'Tin Soldier'.

Pat is a great friend of Gered Mankowitz from back in the day and knew Jimi Hendrix really well. That's Gered and Pat in the photograph alongside.

She gave us a moment that I'll remember for a long time. At one point she took herself downstairs to check out the large format colour Jimi artworks on the lower ground floor. We were playing the Star Spangled Banner through the Sonos system at the time. She was really getting into it, and all of a sudden, this beautiful voice wafted up the stairs, adding amazing vocals to Jimi's instrumental track. It blew me away. We left her in the zone, and gave her a big round of applause when she came back upstairs. Unforgettable.

Pat is playing in London at the Pigalle Club on Saturday 9 October 2010 - check her out if you are free that night.
