Nirvana: photographs by Greg Watermann

Greg Watermann is a supremely talented contemporary photographer who is best known for his photographs of System of a Down, Linkin Park and others. Back in late 1991 he was the man who photographed Nirvana for their very first US national magazine cover, and now, a selection of images from that shoot are being released onto the collectors market for the first time

1991 saw the release of Nirvana’s second album, Nevermind and its explosive first single Smells Like Teen Spirit. After it’s release Nirvana catapulted into rock 'n' roll superstardom and the rest is history.

In January 1992 Nirvana graced the cover of Spin magazine, with a feature article intended to “expose the men behind the myth”. Greg Watermann was commissioned by the magazine to supply the images for the cover and the feature.

As Greg recalls for us:  "Everything you've ever read about Kurt's non-desire for fame is true. Before the shoot he specifically said to me, "I'm freaked-out by the thought of being on the cover of a major magazine.  We're only here because our publicists told us we HAD to do this."

Greg's beautiful hand made silver gelatin photographs are available to purchase in a range of sizes at very affordable launch prices. You can view the photographs and order online here
