Bruce Springsteen charity draw
Details of your chance to own rare signed original photographs of Bruce Springsteen by some of the greatest names in music photography. All for a USD 25 donation to charity.
Fourteen photographers who have photographed Bruce Springsteen throughout much of his career have formed an ad hoc group called “Photographers Against Hunger,” and are, with the help of Backstreets magazine, donating large, original, signed prints of Bruce and the E Street band in order to raise money for, and awareness about, hunger in America. The fourteen photographers are: Danny Clinch, Timothy White, Pam Springsteen, Lynn Goldsmith, Frank Stefanko, David Michael Kennedy, Barbara Pyle, Mary Alfieri, Anton Corbijn, Eric Meola, David Rose, Neal Preston, Albert Watson, and Annie Leibovitz.
Among them, these photographers have made most, if not all, of the iconic images of Springsteen, including the album covers for Magic, Born in the U.S.A., Nebraska, Born to Run, Darkness on the Edge of Town, The River, and The Ghost of Tom Joad.
On April 22, 2009, fans of Bruce and the E Street band will be given the opportunity to, in the words of one of the photographers, “become a part of the spirit of what Bruce and the band have always been about,” by donating $ 25 to the Community Food Bank of New Jersey. The goal is to reach 14,000 donations, after which 14 very lucky people will be chosen at random to receive one of the original, signed prints that the photographers have donated.
Among the unique prints are a limited edition palladium print by David Michael Kennedy which was part of the series he made for Nebraska. Frank Stefanko has donated a spectacular print of Bruce which was used as the jacket sleeve for Darkness on the Edge of Town, and Barbara Pyle sifted through negatives she made during the Born to Run studio sessions--she was the only photographer there and captured the palpable exhaustion on the band’s faces, in a stunning photograph which few people have ever seen.
This is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for lovers of photography and Bruce’s music to own an original, signed print by the photographers who have made the iconic images of Springsteen’s career. And it is an incredible opportunity for Springsteen fans worldwide to make a small donation and in doing so, join together and answer the question Bruce posed in “Thunder Road”: “…hey what else can we do now ?”
