Bob Dylan in his artists studio

Bob Dylan in his artists studio

This is pretty special. A chance to own something that Bob Dylan himself owns...

Here's an interesting one. Something that doesn't happen every day. Bob Dylan liked this portrait shown alongside by David Michael Kennedy so much that he just bought one to use as the image to promote his fine art exhibitions . It's a  photograph from 1985 and shows Bob in his artists studio, with his dog at his side, with examples of Bob's artwork pinned up and on the floor. Photographs of Bob Dylan in his studio are very rare - at least we have never seen one before.

So here's the beauty of limited editions: a couple of people now have the opportunity to own the exact same thing that Bob Dylan owns. It comes in a choice of two sizes. If you want exactly the same as Bob, with an image size measuring 24 x 24 inches, you will have something very rare indeed because in that size the limited edition consists of just three individually signed and numbered archival pigment prints ( plus 2 artists proofs) . Obviously with so few in existence, and with the pedigree, this one is always going to be a premium piece. Helpfully, David also offers the piece in a smaller, more affordable size - with a 14 x14 inch image size, in an edition of 10 ( plus 2 A/Ps).  Here's the link to the price and size info.

Here's David "This image was made in October 1985 in Bob's painting studio at his home in Zuma Beach, California.  It was part of an editorial  spread for Spin Magazine.  I  believe it is one of the only images of Bob in the painting studio, and it must be up there on his list of favourites as he is using it to promote his painting exhibitions. When I got the assignment I was told that Dylan didn't want a big production so I did not even bring an assistant with me. It was a great shoot : just me and Bob fooling around all day at his home. I remember it really felt like it was just two dudes having fun. He helped out hanging a canvas background and got involved in all aspects of the shoot. I think he enjoyed being part of the crew as well as being the subject."

David has also decided to release a second image from this 1985 shoot, also of Bob in the studio, but this time no faithfull hound alongside. Visitors to the recent exhibition from the 2010 Drawn Blank Series exhibition in London will be familiar with this one, as it appeared in the catalogue for the collection. This archival pigment print is offered in a limited edition of 10, with 2 artists proofs, with an image size measuring 14 x 14 inches, and in a larger version with a 24 x 24 inch image size, in an edition of 3 plus 2 artists proofs. Here's the link to price and size info.

David signs and numbers the artwork in the black border under the image, so that when it is window mounted, the mount can go tight up to the image, which looks very clean.
