Praise the lord its.... Godlis

Godlis created a distinctive style all his own to document the late seventies scene at CBGB, shooting both inside the club and outside between sets, pushing film like crazy so he could shoot under streetlights without flash.

Godlis explains: ”I was influenced by everyone from Diane Arbus to Weegee, from Brassai to Walker Evans. I went back to CBGB every night for the next three years. When I graduated, I was a “rock photographer”.

Godlis' handmade silver gelatin prints are available in a range of sizes from 8x10 inches upwards. See them here

Photographers section online now up and running

It's been coming for a while, and the photographers section of the website is now up and running. Here you'll be able to see work categorised.... cue drum roll... by photographer! Ok, it's actually a whole lot better than it sounds, mainly because we've been able to add a stack of serious content that's not been online before, but also because of the menu of viewing options courtesy of the nice people at Apple. There are a couple of examples alongside : you can choose to view items as a mosiac or as a scroll screen just like on your iPod.

To find out more, go to Photographers and have a mooch around.

Real Moments Bob Dylan by Barry Feinstein

We're always partial to a world first, so it was great to hear from the publishers that we will have the very first copies anywhere in the world of Barry Feinstein's wonderful new book of Bob Dylan photographs. While the rest of the print run will literally be on a slow boat from China when we launch Barry's first UK exhibition on Saturday 3 May, we have been promised an advance, express shipment of books for the opening. More details on the exhibition

Many books claim to include unseen photographs. Usually this needs to be taken with a pinch of salt, but not this time. This is a corker of a book, with the first edition, in hardback, at £25 (plus postage & packing - £5 UK, £15 overseas). Call the gallery or go via our eBay shop

Art Kane : Visionary Portraits 1958-68
Ends 19 April 2008

Pete Townshend launches into a windmill in Art Kane’s NYC studio in 1968, and there’s a riot going on. A riot of colour in our Winter exhibition. Art Kane’s music portraits from the late sixties explode in your face with eye popping colour. Just the tonic when it’s cold outside. We’ve been working closely with Art Kane’s son Jonathan and are putting on something extra special to kick off 2008. Alongside unseen photographs of The Who, Dylan and more, the exhibition also features Art Kane’s photographs of The Rolling Stones, Janis Joplin, Cream, Zappa, Country Joe and others in sizes up to 6 ft high. Kane is the photographers’ photographer, universally respected and a true legend behind the lens. It is a complete honour to show his work at the gallery.

Unseen Led Zeppelin photographs from 1972
Now available for the first time

Australian photographer Ted Harvey photographed Led Zeppelin in Sydney in 1972, but for over 30 years his negatives were packed away, and forgotten about - until he stumbled across the cardboard box containing everything from that shoot during a clear out. Now, for the very first time, Ted is offering collectors the chance to own limited editions of some of his favourite photographs from the concert. Ted got the opportunity to meet the band and show them the photographs in 1972 : Robert Plant declared them to be the best live shots he had ever seen. But don't take his word for it - check them out yourself. Prices start at £600 for a signed limited edition measuring 16 x 24 inches.

Frank Stefanko
The Swamps of Jersey
Now extended to 5 January 2008

We’ve had a heap of requests from Boss fans who are going to be heading through Birmingham for the concert at the O2 Arena on 19 December and are desperate to see Frank’s wonderful photographs on the walls. So that they don’t miss out, we’re delighted to be ale to extend this exhibition until 5 January 2008.

Frank Stefanko’s work will be well known to fans of The Boss, as he took the cover photographs on Bruce Springsteen’s albums Darkness on the Edge of Town and The River. While The show will focus mainly on Bruce, it will also feature photographs of two other iconic New Jersey musicians: Patti Smith and Southside Johnny Lyon. Frank and his wife Carol flew in from New Jersey to be at the gallery for the launch on Saturday 29th September, and those who came were able to hear Frank’s talk and find out some of his great stories behind the photographs. Once we master the technology, we might even put some footage on YouTube....

Frank Stefanko: Unseen Bruce

It’s always nice to discover some buried treasure and put it on show. We were delighted to unwrap a ‘surprise package” from Frank Stefanko that arrived just before the start of our “The Swamps of Jersey” exhibition, as it contained a beautiful unpublished outtake of Bruce Springsteen from The River cover shoot, only recently discovered by Frank in his archives. As you’ll see, it’s a close up of Bruce with a really wonderful expression on his face.

It is available to purchase now, for the very first time. Hurry if you want that number 1!
