Where would rock and roll be without the fans ?  Nowhere !

Check out this crowd of cheeky music lovers outside Liverpool’s Cavern Club in 1963. British photographer David Wedgbury was there to shoot a concert that evening, and found himself outside the club while the crowds were building. These were the days when they wrote the name of the Cavern club in chalk above the door.

He took some great pictures that night of Liverpool power trio The Big Three, who, it has to be said, were on fine form. However, for me, these crowd scenes are more important. They have a very special quality about them – an incredible sense of energy, and joie de vivre. Oh to have been there….
